SPAM HELP
Mainly for mem-umc.org account and Outlook, but info may be valuable for other systems.

Last Update: 11/23/2006

Memorial is running Spamassasin SPAM filtering.

Email that it is identified as spam is only MARKED as spam so your email program can identify spam. Your can set your email program to look for this text in the header:

X-Spam-Flag: YES

If the text is found, your email program can delete or move the email.

Here is how to set Outlook to act on Spamassissin's marking:

In Outlook, open Tools menu then "Rules and Alerts" you get this window below: Click on "New Rule"

In the next window below, click on "Start from a blank rule". Select Check messages when they arrive.

The window below appears. Check the one that says "with specific words in the message header". then click "specific words" in the step 2 field.

In the next window below, enter exactly or copy "X-Spam-Flag: YES" in the field next to the Add button and click the Add button. Click OK

In the next window, you may check delete it or move to another folder. If you are using IMAP account settings for your email, deleting it may be the best. If you are using POP, move it to another folder. You may need to create a new folder called "spam".

The next will be exceptions and you probably don't have any. Continue on and finish the rule.

If you selected "move to another folder" you may want to check that folder occasionally for any wanted email.
