Youth News |
Thanks to the graciousness of our church family, our youth are lucky enough to have their own place to hang out. Called "The Bungalow," the building sits right in the middle of the church property, and was converted from a house into a meeting place for the youth group. We have our own kitchen and bathroom areas, and a room full of comfortable furniture.
Through the hard work of our previous youth pastor, Kindra Snow, church family members, and the youth themselves, the Bungalow recently got new carpet, ceiling fans, swamp cooler, and a new paint job. But there's a few things left to do to make it more functional for both the youth and other church members who may wish to use the space. Here is a short list:
Install vinyl flooring in the kitchen and bathroom
Bring the bathroom facility into working order
Connect the swamp cooler to appropriate water and electrical supplies
Repair the kitchen cupboards and shelves
Paint the kitchen and bathroom
To raise the estimated $1,200.00 needed to complete this project, the youth group will hold two special events in the month of June: a bake sale on June 8 and a Summer Kick-off Barbecue on June 29. More details will follow in upcoming church announcements.
Memorial UMC has always been very supportive of its youth, and we thank you in advance for your help with the Bungalow Project.
MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE!
The youth group has a band! Under the guidance of Mike and Julie Hamilton, the youth group is working hard to serve the church by leading the praise singing, and by playing special music during the worship service. The band debuted during the youth-led worship service on May 4, and they sounded great!
All youth grades 7-12 are welcome to join. You don't have to be an expert musician, you just have to want to make music for worship. Mike and Julie are great teachers--very professional, very loving, and very patient! Rehearsals are Wednesday nights from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. If you are interested in joining, or have questions about the band, please see Mike or Julie after church (they can usually be found in the choir loft!) Or talk to any of the following youth band members: Katelin Williams, Eric Jennison, Richie Bonzo, Ben Zastovnik, Madeline Williams, Ian Goudelock, and Hayes Van Westervelt.
A SPECIAL MUSICAL INVITATION
Hayes Van-Westervelt will be performing her 8th grade Vocal Recital, Saturday, June 21st. at 7 pm in the MUMC Sanctuary. A dessert reception will be held afterwards. Come out and support our youth in special events like this.
Thanks for checking in with the "Youth Page"---it's a great place to be!
