LISTEN. Lenten Worship Series.

February 18 begins a special Lenten Worship Series for both Traditional, 11:15 am and Imagine!, 8:45 am worship services.

This Lent, we will quiet things down and heighten our attention to the “still, small voice” of God and our own True Self. Listening through prayer as well as meditation on holy texts is an ancient Lenten practice. Come and rest, come and listen. special theme in worship will invite us to use spiritual disciplines to listen to God speaking to our hearts.
February 18 through Palm Sunday, March 25.

Finding Your Cave: Listening Spaces
…he went into a cave and spent the night… The Lord said, “Go out and stand at the mountain before the Lord. The Lord is passing by.” A very strong wind tore through the mountains and broke apart the stones before the Lord. But the Lord wasn’t in the wind. After
the wind, there was an earthquake. But the Lord wasn’t in the earthquake. After the earthquake, there was a fire. But the Lord wasn’t in the fire. After the fire, there was a sound. Thin. Quiet…

– 1 Kings 19: 11-12

Lenten Studies

Lenten Studies starting February 18th
Join the Adult Sunday School class 10 am to 11 am every Sunday beginning February 18 in The Lose Library. We will be using Adam Hamilton’s DVD series “Moses: In the Footsteps of the Reluctant Prophet”.

Retrace the life of Moses – from his rescue as a baby to the courts of Pharaoh, his Exodus out of Egypt, to his gazing on the Promised Land. Combining historical insights, archaeological data, and the biblical text, Hamilton explores how this reluctant prophet grew in his relationship with God, and how you can overcome your own hesitancy to act boldly for the Lord.

A Messaage From Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew 5:43-48 (NRSV)
I was stunned, sickened and saddened by what happened last Saturday in Charlottesville, VA. Before us for all the world to see was that moment of extreme conflict between White supremacists and counter protestors.
I was watching the news and thinking, “This is what happens in Nairobi, in Nice, in London, but not in Charlottesville, VA.” But of course, it does happen here as well. Do we ever learn? In Charlottesville, in London, in Nice, in Nairobi, in Barcelona, do we ever learn?
