120,000 Meals!

On May 18, 2013, we packed 10,200 meals for the hungry. This was such a success and was so easy, we know we can do more. On October 20th, 2013,at 12:30 pm, at Memorial, we will pack 120,000 meals in bags at a huge meal packing event as part of Memorial’s 120th anniversary. Each bag serves 6 meals.

Each meal costs us 25 cents. There are 6 meals in a bag, so we need to raise $30,000 to purchase the food. Donations are being accepted now.  ALL donations will go to the food purchase. Memorial keeps none of it.

Donate towards the food purchase now.

This will be a community event.  Volunteers are needed. The work is easy, fun, and you will be instructed what to do.  If you can participate, contact the church office to sign up now or fill the form below:

This event is organized by Memorial and Stop Hunger Now which is an international hunger relief agency that has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger for more than 15 years.

Change The World Day

meal-TrioWe are going to Stop Hunger Now!  Sign up to help Memorial United Methodist Church package enough meals on Saturday, May 18 at 10 am, to feed 10,000 people in just 2 hours. More than 250,000 volunteers have packaged meals though Stop Hunger Now!, a hands-on mission project for all ages. The process combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and flavoring mix with vitamins and minerals into small meal packages that are ready to prepare. The packages are shipped around the world to support school programs and crisis relief. The food stores easily and keeps well. The packaging event will be held in the Social Hall.  Call the office to sign up.

Special Guest Soloist

Dr. Patrick Jacobs

At the Sunday, May 5th, 11 am worship service, we were honored to have Dr. Patrick Jacobs visiting us for a couple of weeks while here from Alabama to perform with the Fresno Grand Opera in Bernstein’s Candide.  He played the parts of Voltaire and Dr. Pangloss.  Patrick is an Director of Vocal Studies at the University of Mobile and is music minister at the Saraland United Methodist Church, Saraland, Alabama.  During communion Patrick sang “Panis Angelicus” by Cesar Franck.  Also, during offertory, he sang “The Call” from Five Mystical Songs composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Super Bowl Party

Football-650x440

February 3rd.  Gather on the lawn about 2 pm to play a little football, then into the Social Hall when kickoff is about to happen.  Bring snacks to share – make them appropriately “themed” for the day or the teams playing. You can bring comfortable chairs to sit on to watch the game.  If you don’t like to watch football,  come anyway and bring games, video games, puzzles, or just enjoy being with your fellow Christians.  Bring guests.

SPECIAL FOR THIS YEAR!!!: the Superbowl party will overlap our Christian Ed hour. Food will be happening throughout the day (rather than just at 5 pm.) Sunday School classes will start when halftime starts – so the timing is more fluid on this day.
