Haiti Mission<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n

Memorial<\/abbr> sent a team of Members to Haiti in the spring of 2013 under UMCOR<\/abbr> (United Methodist Committee on Relief). \u00a0See more.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Stephen Ministry:<\/span><\/h2>\n

Stephen Ministry is a specialized caring ministry in which lay people are given extensive training to walk along side people who are going through exceptionally challenging times in their lives. This ministry is different from the vital caring ministry provided through our \u201cSpecial Friends\u201d ministry.<\/p>\n

Stephen Ministers receive approximately 50 hours of training to empower them to provide appropriate Christian care to others. They will become a companion on a journey toward spiritual healing. The ministry is a powerful experience for both those receiving and giving care. Through funding provided by the Conference United Methodist Women\u2019s Beulah Fund, people have been trained as Stephen Leaders.<\/p>\n

Stop Hunger Now!<\/span><\/h2>\n

On May 18, 2013, we packed 10,200 meals for the hungry<\/a>. This was such a success and was so easy, we knew we can do more. \u00a0On October 20th, 2013, at Memorial<\/abbr>, we packed 121,422 meals in a huge <\/span>Stop Hunger Now meal packing event\u00a0as part of Memorial<\/abbr>’s 120th anniversary.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Note the Stop Hunger Now programs is called Rise Against Hunger<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This was a community wide event. Teams from people’s work, organizations, Boy Scouts participated.<\/p>\n

Divine guidance must have been involved with this event because we had no idea that our meals would be desperately needed a couple of weeks later in the Philippines after the devastating typhoon.\u00a0Click here to read a letter to Memorial<\/abbr> from Stop Hunger Now.<\/a>

We are delighted to announce that the\u00a0meals\u00a0from your respective\u00a0meal\u00a0packaging events\u00a0have\u00a0been\u00a0shipped\u00a0in a container totaling 285,120\u00a0meals\u00a0from our San Leandro, California warehouse.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Convoy of Hope, a 501(c)3 faith-based nonprofit, has served more than 55 million people throughout the world through international children’s feeding initiatives, community outreaches, disaster response and partner resourcing. \u00a0Through the cooperation of their local partners, Convoy of Hope is able to feed nearly forty-five thousand children a week in the Philippines and five thousand children every day. Alongside these feeding programs, Convoy of Hope also distributes water filters and conducts lessons in proper hygiene including the washing of hands and feet and keeping living environments safe and clean.\u00a0\u00a0In response to the recent tragedy in the Philippines, Convoy of Hope is responding with Stop Hunger Now meals and other aid to provide relief to those affected.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
